Bird Boarding

Sometimes boarding your bird is the only way to keep him safe while you're away from home. Here's what you need to know about Bird Boarding.

Leaving Your Bird in the Best Hands

Although it may be tempting to ask a friend or neighbor to look in on your feathered friends while you're away on business or a vacation, boarding may be a better choice, especially if you have particularly challenging or demanding pets. Your friends mean well, but they may not have the necessary experience or even the time required to take good care of your pet. Leave your pet in the hands of a professional so you can relax while you're away.

When choosing the right place to board your bird, it's important to find a place that is accustomed to having birds around. It should be obvious that at least part of the boarding area is completely devoted to caring for birds. It's helpful if you can get a recommendation from a fellow bird owner. Pay the boarding facility a visit and take a look around. Is it clean? Is it well ventilated and is there sufficient lighting? Watch the staff as they interact with their charges. Do they appear to be knowledgeable and caring? Ask pointed questions to ensure that you pet will not be ignored most of the day. A good Bird Boarding facility will have someone available for one-on-one time with your pet several times a day.

Make sure the facility will allow your pet to stay in his own, familiar cage and be sure to supply plenty of his regular food when you drop him off to avoid digestive upset.
