Fish Breeders are people who purposely impregnate fish, later selling the offspring. This is lifelong profession for some, who sell their offspring for a profit. Fish Breeders make their living this way and often breed fish in large numbers. They also have a variety of fish species in a lab.
Some Fish Breeders are simple enthusiasts and breed in their spare time. These enthusiasts usually breed in smaller increments, and give new offspring as gifts to friends and family.
How Can I Get Involved?
Select the type of fish you want to breed. If you’re breeding for a profit, research which stores need what types of fish, so your breed will be in demand. You don’t want to breed betas if there’s a high demand for guppies. Next, determine what your fish requires to sustain a healthy life. Does it need
light? Does it need other fish as
food? Also research its natural environment so you can replicate in an
aquarium.
Set up proper space for breeding and know how many fish you want to produce. This determines how much space you need. Place fish in the aquarium known to mate with your fish’s type. Usually it’s same species of the opposite sex, but some fish do mate with same-sex fish, and others even reproduce on their own. All good Fish Breeders will be an expert on their fish’s type.
