Pet Veterinarian Visits

Pet Veterinarian Visits don’t have to be a test of your patience or endurance. Here is everything you need to know about the subject.

Making Pet Veterinarian Visits Easier

Let’s face it, when you were a kid you probably didn’t like going to the doctor. It’s a strange place with complicated machines and sometimes they poked you with needles. Most pets feel the same way about the veterinarian, and getting your puppy or cat to sit calmly in your lap in the waiting room can be a difficult thing.

But going to the vet doesn’t have to be a traumatic experience for either you or your pet; here are a few tips that might make it easier next time:

  • Stay positive while packing up your pet. Offer treats and lots of praise as you bundle your pet into her crate and get her into the car. Talk to her with an excited voice, and tell her how fun it’s going to be. While she won’t understand your words, she’ll understand your tone of voice.

  • Keep your pet on a leash while in the office. Part of what might be scary about the vet’s office is the other animals there. Hang on to your pet if she’s afraid, and don’t expect her to socialize with other animals or people in the waiting room. Talk to her in a happy voice, and keep your distance from other animals and people.

  • Bring treats with you, and have the technicians or vet offer them to your pet. If the vet or technicians offer the treats to your pet, she’ll learn that they’re not all bad, and she may come to like them.

  • If your pet seems to respond well to a particular technician, try and schedule appointments when that person is working. Capitalize on your pet’s preferences by working only with that person, if at all possible.
