Bird Behavior

ImageBird Behavior varies greatly from one species to the next. Here's what you need to know about Bird Behavior in some of the most common breeds .

Canaries

These brilliantly colored favorites are a great choice for beginners. They prefer not to be handled and will be just as happy to sit in the cage , look beautiful and entertain you with songs. If having a singer is the main attraction, make sure you get a male. Female canaries don't sing.

Finches

Finches are also good beginner birds. Not only are they lively and fun to watch, but they require little, if any, handling. Don't buy just one though. Finches are highly social and need at least one fellow feathered friend to be happy.

Parakeets (Budgies)

Parakeets are inexpensive and easy to take care of. They start out fairly timid but, with gentle handling and lots of patience, can bond well with human families. Choosing the right pet store is especially important when looking for a parakeet, as they are often mass-produced, yielding non-socialized, sickly specimens.

Cockatiels

These loving birds are very popular among bird lovers everywhere. They're not big talkers but they love to cuddle and play .

Amazon Parrots

Not for the uninitiated, these are the colorful talkers everyone thinks of when they dream of owning a pet bird. They can be very demanding, though, and even destructive. Among the species, there are some varieties that are less demanding and quieter, which may be better choices for some bird owners. A reputable breeder can recommend the best parrot for you, your family and your lifestyle.
