Funny birds have been made into memorable, animated cartoons for many years. From the Dodo bird in Alice in Wonderland to Big Bird on Sesame Street, birds have made us laugh and become beloved characters we associate with certain species of birds. For some readers, it is their first connection with birds.

The Dodo Bird

The Dodo bird is the epitome of a funny bird. Its true characteristics are that it is a clumsy, awkward bird. When we call one another a Dodo bird, it is usually in reference to the clumsy, goofy behavior that is typical of the bird. Though Dodo birds have been extinct for more than 300 years, most people first became aware of this funny bird in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. The Dodo bird is present in chapters two and three of the book. He is considered a wise bird, but in actuality he was rather dumb, like the bird's true reputation. In the book, the Dodo bird leads the caucus race.

Tweety Bird

Tweety bird is another famous funny bird. He is a canary with a big head. He's small and yellow, but he can outsmart multiple cats and fool his granny into thinking he is sweet, innocent and cute. He is the funny bird we are used to seeing on Looney Tunes.

A Famous Parrot

In his self-titled movie, Paulie gives us a glimpse at the life of a Parrot and shows us not only how attached these birds get to their owners, but also that they can be funny birds. Paulie forms a close bond with a little girl who is his original owner. In a move, the bird is lost. Along the way he is sold and sold again. He finds love in a new owner, but he outlives her to find himself homeless and lonely once again. The movie is about his travels and his attempts to find his original owner and friend.

Sesame Street's Big Bird

Despite popular belief, Big Bird is modeled after a Golden Condor. He is the big, fluffy yellow bird that has been teaching kids and making them laugh for decades on Sesame Street. He is a funny bird with funny friends like Snuffy and Elmo. He is a happy bird and liked to turn a frown upside down. Big Bird is the perfect example of how funny birds on TV can cheer us up and brighten the day of the smallest fan.
