White Bird

While there is no bird officially named a White Bird, there are plenty of white birds that are native to the United States. Different areas of the country are home to different types of white birds.

White pelican

The white pelican is an all white bird that has a long bill and huge pouch that is used for catching and storing fish. The entire body of this white bird is white with the exception of the pouch and the feet. Like the bill, the white pelican's feet are orange.

The white pelican is a white bird that simply loves the water. Most pelicans use their huge bills to pick up fish while they're in the air, but the white pelican fishes while floating. Not a bad deal! This white bird needs a lot of food to keep its motor running and will eat around four pounds of food a day.

This white bird doesn't like to be alone and lives in large colonies. Colonies help protect birds from predators. The white pelican also uses the colony structure to help raise its young.

A funny fact about this white bird is that it doesn't start out as a white bird. The white pelican starts out as a fuzzy looking brown-gray bird. As it gets older and sheds its baby feathers, pure white feathers cover the bird's body. The white pelican will also see a change in the color of its bill, which goes from gray to orange.

The white dove

The white dove is the one white bird that symbolizes peace. White doves are frequently used as symbols of peace and are found on a variety of Christmas and holiday decorations to signify unity. The white dove also makes a cameo in weddings to solidify the loving union between a husband and wife.

The white dove actually makes a great pet. This white bird is happy to live in an aviary or a cage and prefers to have at least one other companion. Unlike other caged birds, the white dove does not have an inherent desire to fly around. These white birds are happy to sit in a cage. Occasionally you'll see them flutter around, but they aren't big on flying long distances.

White doves will allow you to hold them once they get comfortable with you and your household. This white bird can be shy at first, but give it a chance because the white dove really is a good pet.
