Bird Pest Control

Bird pest control is a necessary evil that sometimes needs to be deployed when you have unwanted feathered creatures milling about your home. Here’s everything you need to know about bird pest control.

Bird pest control will keep you sane…and healthy

You’re probably not reading about bird pest control if you and the wild birds that live around you are getting along. No, bird pest control is necessary for people who can’t seem to co-exist with the birds that want to share their living space.

When people think of bird pest control they often get very concerned that removing the pests will be inhumane. Not so. Many bird pest control options that are available that will absolutely not harm the birds. Implementing bird pest control will keep you stay sane by getting rid of the racket or the excretions the birds create and it will also keep you healthy.

Like any wild animal, birds spread diseases that you don’t want to contract. Not be extreme, but there are some diseases they carry that are more threatening than the noises or the messes the birds are making. Bird pest control will help you get rid of these diseases.

One of the most common diseases bird pest control fights against is salmonella. Salmonella is found in bird droppings and though I’m sure you’re not cooking with bird droppings, they can get into your air conditioners or ventilation system and contaminate your food. Bird droppings also host bacteria that affect the respiratory system, the mouth and even your reproductive organs.

I’m sold, how do I get rid of them?

That really depends on what kind of birds you have and where they’re being disruptive. If the birds keep nesting and hanging out on your roof or small nooks on the side of your house, you can use bird netting as a means of bird pest control. Bird netting is stretched across the area that’s exposed so the birds can’t get in. When applied correctly, bird netting will stay in place for many years.

If you have birds, such as geese, that are making messes on your patio or yard, you can use bird traps. Bird traps work as a bird pest control but they also require you to do a lot more work than you would have to do with other types of bird pest control. You have to set them and empty them, which means getting rid of the birds yourself. Less involved bird pest control options exist and should be looked into if you’re not comfortable releasing the birds on your own.
