Decorative Bird House

A decorative bird house doesn’t usually bring in nesting birds, but it is good for bird watching. Here’s all you need to know about a decorative bird house.

A decorative bird house comes in all forms

A decorative bird house can come in just about any form you want. We see decorative bird houses everyday. They’re usually the pretty houses that are balancing on fence posts or hanging in areas where a bird would never choose to make its home. Some of them are made out of wood, others are made out of metal or ceramic.

Birds do not generally roost in decorative bird houses. This is because the way a decorative bird house is set up usually isn’t very conducive to nesting. Many decorative bird houses have no entry ways and a bird can’t nest if they can’t get in the home.

Where do I get a decorative bird home?

Well, if you’re a crafty person you can find a decorative bird house the next time you stop in at a craft store. Craft stores generally have decorative bird houses that have already been decorated.

You can also find your decorative bird house at a flea market, garage sale, outlet store or on the Internet. Florists and greenhouses also tend to carry decorative bird homes because they’re considered a lawn ornament of sorts. You can spend as little or as much as you want to spend on your decorative bird home.

Decorate your own

If you’re feeling creative, you can decorate your own decorative bird house. Craft stores usually have a section of plain wood items. This section usually has unpainted decorative bird homes. If you get a decorative bird house to paint and you want to put it outside, make sure to get paint that can withstand the elements. Also, if you’re painting a decorative bird house and you want to put it outside, get a non-toxic paint because your neighborhood birds might use your faux home as a resting place.

Do I have to put my decorative bird house outside?

No. In fact, if you have a decorative bird house that’s valuable or can’t be exposed to moisture or sunlight, keep it inside. Many people, especially those who collect decorative bird homes, keep a decorative bird home inside. Just remember that if you keep your decorative bird home inside, you will not draw any bird to your decorative bird house.
