Read About Bird Cage Sale

Getting a cage for your bird is important, but what should you look for when you're at a bird cage sale? Here's all you need to know about a bird cage sale.

What should I look for before I complete a bird cage sale?

Before you even come close completing a bird cage sale transaction, you should do plenty of research to make sure that you have the right cage for your bird. Obviously large birds need bigger cages, but it's not jus the size of the cage that you should be concerned with. The design of the cage is also important. For example, little birds like cages that have several rungs that move both horizontally and vertically so they can climb up and down the cage. You should also be aware of the material that the cage is made out of. You don't want to get a cage that's been poorly painted because the bird may gnaw off the paint. Birds should not be eating paint chips.

When you're at your bird cage sale, ask about liners and cage accessories. Unless you want bird droppings all over the living room floor, you need to get cage liners. Cage liners can be as simple as using old newspaper or as specialized as buying fitted liners from the bird cage sale. Whatever your preference, at least ask about the liners because you will need to change them frequently.

Another good accessory to ask about when engaged in a bird cage sale is bird dishes. In many instances these come with the cage, but you should always ask. If they don't you should plan on buying dishes for the bird.

A bird cage from a bird cage sale should be clean

Make sure the cage you're getting from the bird cage sale is clean. Birds have incredibly sensitive immune systems and, as we've seen with the onset of the bird flu outbreak, diseases and sicknesses move quickly from bird to bird. While this probably won't be an issue if you're going to a bird cage sale that includes brand new cages, if you're looking into buying a used cage, you should clean it thoroughly before placing your bird in it.

Where do I find a bird cage sale?

You can find a bird cage sale at the specialty bird store where you're purchasing your bird, by using on-line sites and by checking the newspaper. No matter where you decide to go for the bird cage sale, make sure that you shop around. Bird cages can be very expensive, especially if you have a big bird, and it's always a good idea to compare prices, materials and quality before putting money down at the bird cage sale.
