 Prevention Of Emergencies

Let’s face it: some cats are too curious for their own good. These hardy adventurers tend to get into anything and everything, whether it’s dangerous or not. If they keep it up, they’re going to need emergency care eventually.

The best way to keep your cat healthy is to try and prevent mishaps before they occur. Here are a few tips for doing so:

  • Keep an eye on your feline. If you know she gets into everything, she probably shouldn’t be left alone for very long. Try and keep her in the same room with you so you can head her off at whatever pass she’s gunning for.

  • Cat-proof your house. Much like new parents do for their infants, you might have to cat-proof each room of the house. Make sure chemicals are put away out of reach, in locked or latched cabinets. Keep dirty clothes and shoes picked up and in hampers or closets. Don’t leave a morsel of food out in the open for your hungry tabby to dig through. Make sure trash cans have lids that latch, or better yet, just keep the doors to the bathroom and garage closed.

  • Watch for potential hazards. No matter what you’re doing, never forget you have an inquisitive cat. Don’t give her the temptation of getting into your painting project or electrical repairs; simply remove her from the room for the time being or do the projects when she’s not around.
