First, you need to check your area for show times and dates. Then, when you locate some, go check them out. If you have never been to a cat show, then you need to get an idea of how things work and what to expect. Once you become familiar and if you feel it is right for you then you can start applying.

Now you need to enter your cat. The rules vary from show to show so you need to get a copy of them. Also, get a copy of the guidelines for entry. These will tell you if your cat qualifies for competition. Most likely you want to participate in the Household Pet division unless you have a specific breed of cat.

Showing your cat does require the purchase of some items and always an entry fee. You are going to need a cage for transportation, so get one if you don’t already have one. You will also need some grooming supplies and possibly a trip to the groomer before the show. ImageIn relation to grooming supplies, you will need a comb or brush and some claw clippers. You must have your cats claws clipped before the show so they don’t harm you and especially the judge.

Don't forget to bring along some of your cats favorite toys for entertainment in their cage. Don’t forget the cage curtains that you put on the cage to keep the cats from harassing each other. You may also want to bring your own litter and cat food. Some shows provide those kinds of things but some do not.

Lastly, you need to arrive at least an hour or so before show time. This will allow ample time for you to get checked in and get a feel for the place. You will receive your number, which will help you locate your spot so you have an idea of where you are going. You will have plenty of time to walk around and check out all the different types of cats. Showing your cat is a fun experience so if have been considering it, just go for it!
