 If your dog has become the neighborhood nuisance because of her barking, it may be time to try a no bark collar. There is a variety of no bark collars available online and in pet stores that can help take the bite out of your dog's bark.
Before You Buy
It's important to determine that your dog is not suffering from a medical condition that is causing excessive barking. Have your dog looked over by a veterinarian before you buy a no bark collar and, while you're there, take the time to discuss the merits of each type of collar available to help you make your decision.
Types Of No Bark Collars
Spray Mist No Bark Collar - Considered the most humane solution by many veterinarians and pet owners, a spray mist No Bark Collar sprays citronella, citrus or other essential oils each time it detects barking through a little microphone or vibration detector in the collar. While these oils are harmless, your dog is sure to find the sound, smell, sight and feel of them to be unpleasant.
 Static shock no bark collar - A larger dog may respond well to a static shock no bark collar which responds to barking with a small static electric charge. Most dogs quickly associate this uncomfortable feeling with barking. This type of no bark collar is not recommended for dogs under 8 pounds. A static shock no bark collar may worsen separation anxiety or aggressiveness in some dogs, so be sure to discuss this option with your veterinarian if you have any concerns.
Sonic or Ultrasonic No Bark Collar - This is the latest technology in no bark collars. These collars emit a high-pitched tone each time they detect barking. Most dogs will find the sound annoying and/or distracting enough to stop them from barking.
Combination No Bark Collar - Some no bark collars combine methods, using both a spray and a sound for example. Others incorporate an escalation device that regulates the sound or sensation. The sound or static charge starts out at a low level and gradually increases as barking continues. Your dog will quickly learn to stop barking before the negative feedback worsens.
Calming No Bark Collar - Unlike static charge, spray or ultrasonic collars, which work by emitting painful or annoying responses to barking, calming no bark collars work by distracting your dog with soothing melodies. If you're hesitant to make your dog uncomfortable in your efforts to quiet him, this is the choice for you.
