Grooming Yorkshire Terriers

ImageGrooming Yorkshire Terriers is essential and should be carried out regularly to keep the coat from matting and tangling. Here's everything you need to know about it.

How to Grooming Yorkshire Terriers

  1. The Facts:

Dogs should be groomed regularly to keep their coat healthy and clean. A dog that is not groomed regularly will have a bad appearance and might be prone to diseases such as skin infections. Yorkshire terriers have long hair and they need regular grooming and brushing to prevent the coat from matting and tangling.
  2. Supplies:

In order to groom your Yorkshire Terrier properly, you will need a pin brush that is soft and has long pins, a metal comb with long teeth, a dryer to dry the dog's hair after bathing the dog, a flea comb with fine teeth to remove eye mucous, scissors, and bathing supplies like shampoos and conditioners.
  3. What to Do:

Image Brush the dog's hair from in the direction of the hair growth, i.e., from top to bottom. Take each leg and spread the pad so that the scissors can reach between the pads and trim the hair in between the pads. Make sure you trim the hair on the ears so that the hair is not too heavy for the dog's ears to stand erect. Trim the hair near the rectum to maintain cleanliness. Bathe the dog with a shampoo and try to remove the tangles with your hand while giving the bath. If the dog has eye mucous under the eye, dampen it with water and remove the mucous.
  4. Special Considerations:

Clean the dog's teeth regularly. Make sure the heat the dryer produces is not very hot for the dog. The dog will require professional grooming occasionally. The hair on top of the head can be tied into a knot to prevent it from falling in the dog's eyes.
  5. Other Tips:

When you brush the hair after giving the dog a bath, make sure the hair is not completely dry, as this might damage the coat. Use the right shampoo that can maintain the pH balance in the dog to keep the dog's skin healthy. If you feel you cannot groom the dog regularly to maintain the long coat, you can cut the hair to be short. This can be done by a professional or on your own.
  6. Expense:

Grooming Yorkshire Terrier supplies are quite cheap and most of the products are priced below or around $10.
