Dog Worms - Facts
1.
Problem Definition:
Roundworms and tape worms can be
easily seen and are common afflictions of a dog. Some worms come out in stool or
in the vomit. Some might need definitive tests to trace them.
2.
Symptoms:
Diarrhea, blood in the stool, weight loss, dry hair, general poor
appearance and vomiting perhaps with worms in it are some common symptoms. Get
your canine's stool checked regularly if the occurrence of worms is repetitive.
3.
Duration of Problem:
Roundworms are a common
affliction in puppies and last less when compared to other worms which might
taken longer to cure. Roundworms generally lie dormant in the mother and when
transferred to puppies they become activated. Roundworms hardly bother older
dogs.
4.
Exposure:
Contaminated soil, ingesting a
flea, infected food and mostly environmental exposure to infected feces cause
worm infection. Good hygiene and weekly
removal of feces can definitely reduce chances of infection.
Dog Worms - Prevention & Treatment
1.
The Treatment:
Dogs should be regularly given a
de-wormer
to prevent and in many cases cure dog worms. De-wormer can be mixed with normal
dog food and given as prescribed to the pet.
2.
Prevention:
Remove dog feces regularly, use appropriate vermicides, have your
dog's stool checked properly and do not use de-wormer with any other medicine.
3.
Precautions:
Precaution should be taken
because many dog worms can infect humans too. Also do not mix wormers.
4.
Helpful Supplies:
De-wormers should be used
regularly as per a dog's age. They definitely reduce the risk of higher
infections.
Dog Worms - Concerns
1.
Level of Seriousness:
Depending on the type of worm the
seriousness of
disease varies. Roundworms are fairly common and easy to treat but heart
worms are definitely a much more serious matter.
2.
Lasting Consequences:
Most dog worms are easily
treatable and do not have any lasting consequence.
3.
Genetics:
Roundworms are generally
transferred from Dams to their puppies. But worms are not a genetic disease.
4.
Lifestyle Accommodations:
Prompt disposal of dog feces and
regular use of a de-wormer should be part of a dog owner's routine.
5.
Expense:
Most dog worm problems can be
easily avoided by use of de-wormers and can prevent additional expenditure.
