-- Reasons and Facts

  1. ImageWhy Adopt:

  2. What Pet to Adopt:

When adopting a Doberman from a rescue organization, look for the healthiest possible dog with the best temperament.
  3. When to Adopt:

Anytime is a good time to adopt a dog, as long as you are ready for the responsibilities it entails. A lot of times, after a holiday you'll find people selling or giving puppies away after receiving it as a gift and they are unable to take care of it. Be sure that you and your family are ready to make a commitment for the lifetime of the dog.

Doberman Rescue-- Where to Look

  1. Online:

Using a search engine online, you can find websites of different shelters and rescue organizations. Relevant sites you can find include www.DobermanRescueGroup.org, www.dobe.net, and www.hope4dobe.org, among others.
  2. Classifieds:

Some rescue organizations will run ads when they have an abundance of animals needing a good home.
  3. Pet Shows:

There are not many rescue organizations that take part in pet shows, however, a pet show is a good way to research the type of dog you may want to adopt.
  4. Local Vet:

Your local vet may know of any rescue organizations where you can find the dog you want.

Doberman Rescue -- What to Look For

  1. Pet Temperament:

Look for a dog that has a good even temperament.
  2. Pet's Surroundings:

Make sure the surroundings of the dog are soft, clean, and that there is enough food and water.
  3. Pet's Health:.

Ask the person that you are getting the dog from if they have any records of vaccines. It would be a good idea to take the dog to your local vet and have it checked out.
  4. ImageWhat to Avoid:

You may want to avoid a dog that is excessively aggressive and ill-tempered, especially in an older dog, as this may be a behavior that could be difficult to overcome.

Doberman Rescue-- How to Choose

  1. Type of Pet:

It may prove difficult to find a purebred Doberman at a rescue organization. You may be able, however, to find a Doberman mix.
