Volunteering at an animal shelter, performing poodle rescue, can be one of
the most rewarding jobs in the world. There are many animals that live
in bad homes. They are
malnourished, neglected, and oftentimes, abused by their owners. Animal
shelters provide these dogs with the security they need to recover. Along the
way, hopefully, they will be adopted by good people who will take care of them
and give them the love they need. Poodles are good companion dogs for people who
live alone. They are not recommended for people with young children as the
poodles can be injured easily. Some poodles have been known to bite children in
self-defense. It is wise to get another type of dog if there are children in the
house.
There are three types of poodles. When volunteering time in poodle rescue, it
is important to know the different breeds as each one needs special care and
should be placed in the right place that can provide a safe, happy home. The
first type is the standard poodle. These poodles are the biggest of them all
weighing in at twenty pounds. Many poodle rescue workers have come across these
dogs. Because they are small, the poodles need to be kept in a fenced-in yard.
Many people who own poodles do not know how to care for them. Even though they
don't shed, a poodles coat needs to be
brushed every day. Otherwise, the poodle's
skin will get dry and irritated. Also, a poodle's coat needs to be
groomed every six to eight weeks. It is important to cut the hair in the ears
since poodles are prone to ear infections.
During a poodle rescue, poodle will be found not groomed and
shaggy. They may suffer from
ear infections which will make them irritable. Knowing which breed the
poodle is can help. Once they are treated and free of infection, finding a
family with a yard and plenty of room to run is the best environment for the
standard poodle.
Toy
poodles are small than standard poodles. They normally weigh between fifteen
and twenty pounds but are small in size. Toy poodles are a good companion for
older people and people with small houses. In a poodle rescue, the dogs may be
starving and will need to be held. Since they are so small, they are prone to
broken bones and other injuries. A family without small children is the best
environment for this dog.
The last type of poodle is the miniature
poodle. These poodles are the smallest, but have lots of energy. They
can also live in a small place. They crave attention and are very friendly.
These poodles can be very expensive because of the grooming costs. Every six to
eight weeks, the poodle needs to be groomed. This is very important for their
health. During a poodle rescue many neglected dogs will be found and treated and
given new homes.
