Purina Dog Show - Facts

Type of Competition:
Purina Dog show is and
extensively planned and big competition. The dogs participate in four main
events that are Dog diving, Freestyle Flying Disc, Agility competition, jack
Russell hurdle racing and weave roll. There is a full scale competition for dogs
in all the 150
breeds registered with the AKC.

Location:
The National Purina Dog show is
held in St. Louis, the home of Nestle Purina Pet care. This is show is
covered live by Animal Planet and Discovery channel.

History:
The first Purina dog show was
held in fall of 1998 in Gray Summit Missouri. Purina Foods is the biggest
sponsor of all dog shows in America. The national Dog show is a Grand Event of
all dogs sponsored by Purnina. The show is now a tradition liked with
Thanksgiving Day in Philadelphia. The Purina Dog show is in the Top four dog
show in the country.
Dogs from other country participate in the Purina National Dog show.

Sanctioned:
The Show is sanctioned by
American Kennel Club. The Purina Dog show is organized and managed by
Philadelphia Kennel Club.

Entrance Procedure:
.Only dogs registered
individually with AKC and participate in the Breed competitions. Well
behaved dogs on leashes are able to attend the show. For other competitions
like Jack Russell hurdle racing and weave roll only dogs that have gone through
the screening held prior to the show are allowed to participate in the dog show.
6.
Classes:
The dogs judged are classified
into the classes established by AKC. These are Working, herding, sporting,
non-working, Toys, Hounds and Terriers.
7.
Judging:
The dogs are judged on how well
they perform in each activity like free style flying
disc and dog diving and others mentioned above. The dogs
participating in the breed shows are judge to the standards of each breed
established by the parent club of each breed registered under the AKC.
8.
Awards:
Best of Show is the prestigious
award. Other awards include best of breed, best of opposite and best of
puppies. Dogs are also judged for agility and obedience. Dogs are
award for the events like freestyle flying disc, dog
diving and other events.
