  1. Temperament:

    This breed is alert and responsive; it carries its courageous nature in a very dignified manner. The Akita is aggressive toward other dogs.
  2. Behavior:

    This breed can be very affectionate with its family, however, due to its willfulness, it needs firm training from the very beginning. It can be very food possessive and is aggressive with other dogs.
  3. Habits:

    Vocalizes with many interesting sounds, however, it is not an excessive barker.

    This breed is prone to hip dysplasia, thyroid diseases, immune diseases, skin problems, eye and knee problems.
  2. Exercise Needs:

    Moderate but regular exercise is a must.
  3. Grooming Needs:

    The Akita's coat needs significant brushing. However, bathe only when Imageabsolutely necessary as this process removes the natural waterproofing of the coat.

    With such a large breed, it is necessary to either belt them into a dog seat, or have them sectioned off in the far back of your car (if you have an SUV or wagon style verhicle).

    The Akita will usually get along with children as long as they are raised together. If teased, the Akita has been known to bite. This breed is extremely aggressive towards other animals so it is not wise to leave it unattended with it's housemates.
