With over 800 identified breeds of dogs,
when you want to adopt a dog or purchase a
purebred dog, it is often hard to decide which one
is best for you. Some dog breeds grow to be quite
large and are not suited to living in apartments. There are some
breeds that have the reputation for being dangerous animals, such as
Pit Bull dogs. Others like the
German Shepherd are diggers,
and will
dig themselves out of backyards if the fence or enclosure is not firmly rooted
in the ground. Then there are the toy dogs or
designer dogs that mainly stay indoors. These are
just a few of the different dog breeds you can have.
For the most part, normal dogs that are pets are a combination of several breeds of dogs, which is why you often hear them referred to as mutts. Because of mixed breeding through several generations, it is impossible to identify them as belonging to a specific dog breed. Breeders who deal with only one type of dog and breed them to sell to those who want this type of dog as a pet or want to train them as show dogs usually handle purebred dogs.
Many of the breeds of dogs are results of selective breeding techniques with two different breeds. For example, the Shorkie is a result of breeding a Yorkshire terrier with a Shih Tzu. Some of the Shorkies look more like the Yorkie parent, while others have the longhaired features of the Shih Tzu parent. Breeders do not really know how the litter will turn out when they choose this method of breeding.
If you want to have a specific breed of dog and want to get involved in breeding, it is not a good idea to keep the male and female of a litter and breed them when they become adults. These results in inbreeding and according to the experts in breeds of dogs, the resulting puppies may not be very intelligent because of the lower gene pool. It is best to have two completely different parents of the same dogs breed so that you do get the mixing of different genes.
Mixed breeds of dogs are no better or worse
than purebred dogs if you just want a companion or a working dog.
They still require the same training when it comes to
housebreaking and they still need to be enrolled in obedience training to
teach them the rules of your household. While some dog’s
breeds are better for homes with children than others are, most dogs
adapt well to living in any home. They love to play and they are loving
companions. You can enjoy an evening walk so that the dog gets exercise and so
do you. They love dog treats and chewy
toys and are just like children. With all breeds
of dogs, you have another member of the family to love and enjoy.
