Dogs learn to like dog carriers quickly. They view them as safe, comfortable havens when they are inside them.
Things to consider:
Proper Sizing — Dog carriers, like dogs, come in all shapes and sizes. Since you can´t very well have your dog "try on" dog carriers online, here´s how to measure your dog so that you can be sure to buy the right size of carrier. By using a tape measure, with your dog standing in front of you, measure his length from the base of his neck (where the collar sits) to the start (not the tip) of his tail, his height from the floor straight up to the center of his back, and his width by wrapping the tape measure around his chest about 1/2" behind his front legs.
A "Happy Place" — If your dog doesn´t travel well or is not the ideal houseguest, dog carriers are a safe and humane way to get her adjusted to the new experience.
The Purpose — When trying to decide what kind to get, ask yourself how much you plan to use it and for what purposes. You might want to consider how long the trips are, and whether your dog is remaining in the dog carrier once you get there. If so, a more plush carrier might be a kinder way to go. You should make sure there is room for a food and water dish inside the carrier.
