All Glass Aquariums

All glass aquariums have been around for thousands of years, but are starting to loose out to all acrylic aquariums. However, all glass aquariums continue to be a great habitat choice for fish.

Why choose all glass aquariums?

When you go out looking for an aquarium you basically have two material choices. You can choose between all glass aquariums or all acrylic aquariums. Some specialty stores will integrate both materials, but that’s usually expensive and harder to find.

All glass aquariums have been around forever, but they’re starting to loose their popularity because fish owners are tending toward acrylic aquariums. The reason for this is that acrylic aquariums do not leak or crack, they weigh about half as much as all glass aquariums and they can be drilled to accommodate aquarium plumbing.

That doesn’t mean that all glass aquariums are kaput. They’re not. In fact, if you’re strapped for cash you might want to get all glass aquariums because they are cheaper. They also don’t scratch as easily as all acrylic aquariums.

What should I put in my aquariums?

Besides fish, which are an obvious first choice when thinking about what to put in your all glass aquariums, you also need to put other living plants and creatures in your aquarium.

Algae eating fish are a great asset to all glass aquariums because they help keep the aquariums clean. Plants are also a great asset especially if you have shy fish that like to hide. Of course you can put any other ornament into your all glass aquariums, but it’s always a good idea to make sure you have plants and algae eating fish in there.

Filtration is key

In order to keep your all glass aquariums clean you’re going to need to have a few filtration systems in place. First you’re going to have a biological filtration system. This type of filtration system removes toxins from the aquarium and is easily installed because all it takes is placing a few rocks into the aquarium.

Your all glass aquariums will also need a chemical filtration system, which is usually a carbon based system that gets rid of dissolved chemical waste. These is some debate as to whether this system needs to be in aquarium at all times or if it should just be put in the aquarium on occasion.

The last system you’re going to need in your all glass aquariums is a mechanical system. This will filter out solid waste and can easily fit inside of the tank. Before you get all glass aquariums you should make sure you can put these systems into place.
