Large fish tanks or aquariums, such as the 125 gallon aquarium, have their advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of a large tank is that you can keep more fish and you can generally keep a larger variety of fish. Large tanks and aquariums are also easier to clean than smaller tanks.

The disadvantages of buying a 125 gallon aquarium is that it’s expensive and, depending on where you want to put the tank, can require you to purchase a custom built tank and stand.

Large aquariums like the 125 gallon aquarium also take up a lot of space, which can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. It can be an advantage because the 125 gallon aquarium is so large it can actually become a beautiful center piece of the room. But, this characteristic can also be a disadvantage because it can be hard to find enough room in your house to fit this aquarium.

Cleaning you aquarium

It’s vitally important that you keep your 125 gallon aquarium clean. If you don’t, your fish will get sick. Sickness spreads very quickly between fish populations, especially when they are confined to a small space so neglecting aquarium maintenance can be the difference between life and death for your fish.

The water in a 125 gallon acquire should be changed about once every two weeks. Before you roll up your sleeves and start changing the water and cleaning the tank, you should make sure that the fish are in a safe area while the tank is being cleaned.

If you’re tank isn’t really dirty and you plan on maintaining up to 40 percent of the water, you might be able to keep the fish in the 125 gallon aquarium. However, if you plan on doing this, make sure that you’re extremely careful not to suck up any of the fish while you’re cleaning the tank.

Next, you should unplug any electrical source that’s landing to the tank. This can include the lights, the heater, the filter and anything else that’s plugged in. Then, use an algae scrubber to clean any algae off the sides of your 125 gallon aquarium. If you have any algae eating fish, this shouldn’t be too cumbersome of a task.

Your 125 gallon aquarium will also need to be checked for salt and mineral build ups, which generally collect on the top or the edges of the tank. When this is finished, pull out any dead or dying plants and then clean the gravel. The gravel of 125 gallon aquarium tank can be cleaned by using siphon that is worked around the gravel of a tank like a vacuum.
