Read About All Glass Aquarium

You can find an all glass aquarium in just about any size, but if you want one that’s bigger than 210 gallons, you’re probably going to have to hit up a custom aquarium shop.

Advantages to the all glass aquarium

These days there are two common types of aquariums; an all glass aquarium and an acrylic aquarium. Each aquarium has its advantages so naturally, each has its disadvantages.

The all glass aquarium doesn’t need as much support at the base as an all acrylic aquarium. All glass aquariums actually only need support on each side of the case whereas an acrylic aquarium needs support on the entire bottom of the cage. This can make finding a supporting stand for a glass aquarium much easier and cheaper than finding one for an acrylic aquarium.

Surprisingly, the all glass aquarium doesn’t scratch as easily as the acrylic aquarium. This shouldn’t make too much of a difference to you unless you plan on moving your aquarium around a lot.

The all glass aquarium is also cheaper than the all acrylic aquarium. However, there is a downside to the decreased costs. An all glass aquarium does not typically last as long as an all acrylic aquarium so it might be worth it to put out more money for an acrylic aquarium.

Disadvantages to the all glass aquarium

The all glass aquarium also has some disadvantages. For one, it’s a lot heavier than an all acrylic aquarium. This may be more of a problem for the aquarium installers than it is for you! However, keep in mind that weight is a factor when finding a stand for your aquarium.

The all glass aquarium also has a tendency to crack. An all glass aquarium typically cracks on the sides where the sealant holds the two pieces of glass together. This does not happen with acrylic aquariums. It’s also much harder to drill a plumbing hole into an all glass aquarium because of the cracking issue. Because an all acrylic aquarium doesn’t crack as easily, it’s easier to drill plumbing holes into the glass.

Where do I get my all glass aquarium?

Even though acrylic aquariums are starting to outpace the all glass aquarium, you can still find an all glass aquarium at pretty much every pet store. You can also special order an all glass aquarium if you want an aquarium that holds more than 210 gallons of water.
