A soft brush can be used to finish so natural oils from the horse's skin will spread and soften your horse's coat. When working with the mane and tail you do not want to over brush. The mane and tail will thin as you brush. Use a detangler and handpick the tail, this should keep some of the thickness. Make sure the mane and tail are free of particles or objects; this will help them grow faster.

Horses do not need to bath very often. This helps the skin establish and keep its own natural look and feel. Although if bathing is necessary make sure to only use horse shampoos, and the weather conditions are appropriate for bathing for your horse. Late spring through late summer is the best months for bathing your horse, since they carry the best temperatures.

On your horse's hooves use a hoof pick. Pick away any particles, chunks or dirt. Start with the heel and go towards the toe. Clean out all the mud and dirt stuck in the hoof. Check to make sure everything is removed. The soft tissue is sensitive and you need to be gentle. With a hoof brush scrub the hoof and sole to remove any remaining debris.
