  1. Type of Competition:

    Dixie National Quarter Horse Show is and annual quarter horse show organized by the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association. This is the largest quarter horse show held in the south and the third largest in USA. This show attracts over 4500 spectators and Free Style Reining is the main attraction.
  2. Location:

    It is held every February on the State Fairgrounds, Jackson, Mississippi.
  3. History:

    The last show was conducted from February 15 to 19, 2006. The Dixie National Equine Expo is held along with the Dixie National Quarter Horse Show.
  4. Sanctioned:

    This show is approved by the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).
  5. Entrance Procedure:

    The horses that are entered in the show should be registered with AQHA. Every horse should have a negative equine infectious anemia test certificate. Contestant in the AQHA classes should already be members of AQHA or the American Quarter Horse Youth Association (AQHYA).
  6. Classes:

    The Show is conducted for the following classes: AQHA Open, AQHA Amateur, AQHA Youth, NCHA, Novice Amateur, Novice Youth, NSBA, NRHA and Specialty Classes. There are various competitions such as roping, heeling, barrel racing, heading, western riding, reining etc.
  7. Judging:

    The show is double judged and has double points. Ribbons are awarded for the first 10 places. The awards and cash prizes will be decided after considering the points given by each judge.
  8. Awards:

    The horses are awarded for the first 10 places with ribbons. The colors of ribbons for the first to tenth are blue, red, yellow, white, pink, green, purple, brown, gray, and light blue. There are even cash prizes for the contestants and the total cash prizes are around $80,000. Awards are given for Novice Youth All Around and Amateur Youth All Around for the winners with most composite points in the show.
