There are a few essential horse trailering supplies that can make the life of any horse owner much more pleasant.
· A good quality horse trailer · A tire gauge for regular checks of the tire pressure · A chain to add to the security of your towing mechanism · A well-stocked and often checked and replenished equine first aid kit · A feed bag for holding hay · A watering apparatus of some kind · A tack storage box · Extra ties and tethers for any situation (using those with quick-release mechanisms offer extra safety) · Shipping wraps or boots (also called trailering boots or trailering wraps) to prevent lower leg injury · A travel halter (for your horse’s comfort) · A head bumper to prevent head injury · A tie that is long enough to give your horse room to move his neck. If he needs to cough and cannot get a proper position for his neck, he may develop respiratory distress · A fly mask to prevent insects and hay from disturbing your animal’s eyes · Hay and a way to obtain water, or bring your own · A familiar bucket, in case your horse is hesitant to drink any other way · Blocks to prevent your trailer from shifting and rolling when not in transit · A cell phone or CB for emergency communication · A rubber floor mat and a rubber mat for the ramp · A breast and/or butt bar (with padding) · Jacks for emergenciesHaving a few essential horse trailering supplies before you plan on hauling your horse can make your trip a fun one.
