Read About Choosing Bird Nesting Materials

Whether your bird will be breeding or not, it will instinctively begin nesting at the onset of Spring. You will need to provide nesting materials to help her avoid the stress of having to find her own nesting material.

Things to Consider:

  • Nesting Materials – If your female bird begins shredding the paper at the bottom her cage, it´s a sign that she´s nesting. Don´'t remove the shredded paper without providing other nesting materials for her.

  • Fixing Nesting Doors – If the nesting box you´re using has sliding doors that have swollen, or fit tightly, you can remove them and file down the edges so the doors slide easier.

  • Substrates – Consider giving your bird a substrate on which to build her nest. A substrate will provide a good foothold for the chicks and will help to prevent splayed legs.
