Read About Choosing Cages for Medium Birds

Your medium–sized bird should be able to spread his wings in his cage. When you´re cage shopping, you should be aware that you have a general idea of your bird´s wingspan.

Things to Consider:

  • Bar Spacing – For medium birds, cage bars should be spaced no more than 5⁄8" to 3⁄4" apart. Any farther apart, your bird get caught between the bars, or possibly even slip out and get free.

  • Space Taken up by Toys – You should take into consideration how much room toys and perches will take up. These are important items for your bird to have, as they help prevent boredom and feather plucking.

  • Safe, Non-toxic Wire – Wire cages are the most common, and least expensive, types of cages available for medium–sized birds. If purchasing a wire cage, you need to be sure the wire is made of a non–toxic metal. If it´s painted, you should check that the paint doesn´t contain lead or that it can easily chip.
