Read About Choosing Brushes, Combs, and Rakes

Some cats don´t enjoy being brushed. If yours is one of those cats, try starting with a groomer´s mitt, which will help you cat to get used to the feel of being brushed.

Things to Consider:

  • Your Cat´s Playfulness – Some cats not only enjoy being brushed, but think it´s playtime! If your cat likes trying to grab the brush as you´re using it, you might want to consider buying two of the same kind of brush. When your cat tries to take the one you´re using, you can let her have it, and just start using the second brush.

  • Make Combing Easier – If your cat has especially long and thick fur before you brush him, you can sprinkle a little unscented baby powder, or talcum powder, on his fur. Working the powder into your cat´s fur will separate the hair, making combing easier.

  • Brushing Direction – Always brush in the direction of your cat´s natural hair growth. It will help with detangling any mats. In addition, brushing against the natural hair growth could actually hurt your cat, especially if he has sensitive skin or extremely tangled fur.
