Read About Choosing Breeding Equipment

If you plan on breeding your cows, it is always helpful to have equipment that can assist you in determining your cows' mating cycles.

Things to Consider:

  • Separate Housing – If you can afford the room, it is always easier to separate your cows that are in heat and ready to be bred from the others. Young calves and older cattle can be more of a nuisance during this time.

  • Heat Indicators – These can be especially handy if you are using someone else's bull for breeding. It saves you a lot of time and money and ensures that your cows have been mated.

  • Healthy Cows – Be sure that your cows are in the best health they can be before breeding. They will need plenty of energy, especially towards the end of the pregnancy, where the calf grows at a substantial rate, taking a lot of the mother's nutrients from her body.
