Read About Choosing Barrel Ponds

A Barrel Pond placed on a patio brings some exquisite aquatic life right up to your backdoor.

Things to consider:

  • Barrel Pond Requirements – A barrel water garden is easy to construct, and it is a great addition to a deck or patio. It needs to be in a spot that gets 4–5 hours of direct sunlight each day if you want to grow a water lily or other flowering plants.

  • Fish & Water Plants – A barrel water garden will add a touch of aquatic life to your sun porch or patio. A barrel pond does not require filtration or circulation unless you want to have fish or the sound of moving water. You should consider the size of the barrel pond when selecting your plants. A water lily with small leaf spreads works best in this type of setting.

  • Crystal Clear Water – A patio pond, or barrel water garden, is an ideal way to add an eye-catching feature to a deck, patio, or sun porch. When you put two or three bunches of anacharis in the barrel pond for every 10 or 15 gallons of water, they will keep the water clear. The barrel water garden does not require a filter or circulation, unless you plan to have fish live in it. If it will be home to only to aquatic plants, the maintenance will be extremely low.
