Read About Cats and Exercise

Do you take your cat for a walk? Have you ever thought of him while you watched young kids play on the jungle gym? You should. Exercise is the most important aspect of your cat's health. It has oft been said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." With cats and exercise, this is true. By taking a few simple measures to ensure your cat's health, you can bank some future rest and relaxation time. Give some thought to the following ideas on cats and exercise.

  1. You should start your cat out young with exercise. As a small kitten he will be full of energy anyhow. You can play with him and teach him appropriate ways to work off his excess energy. Purchase a cat motel for him to hide and play in. There are thousands of toys out there that will keep him busy for hours. Give him whatever it takes to make exercise fun and entertaining for him.

  2. As he grows older, continue to make exercise a part of the quality time you spend with him. If he is a house cat, you can take him outside from time to time to let him explore as long as he is well-trained and will come in when called. You may also consider purchasing a lightweight leash that is rather long to allow exploration. You should never leave your pet unattended while tied up.

  3. If you can keep him active as old age approaches, he will not have as many health problems as inactive cats have. This will give you more time to enjoy each other without constantly running to the vet.

Make exercise a part of your cat's daily routine and he will live a happy and healthy life.
