How to Choose a Cat Food

Now that you have decided to get a cat you have a few more decisions to make. You must decide which products you want to use or not use and most importantly, you must select a cat food for your new pet. Whether you have selected a baby kitten or an older cat, you must choose a food that will provide all the nutrients he needs. Consider the following tips when trying to select a cat food.

  1. First, you must determine the age of your cat and select a food that is age appropriate. This is important because when foods are specially formulated for a certain age, then it is designed to meet the specific needs of a kitten, adult cat, or even an older cat. Another words, your kitten is not going to get all the nutrients he needs from a food formulated for a senior pet.
  2. Then, you should do some searching and see if there is any specific brand of food that you prefer over another. Most brands have the essentials but several will provide some extra things that will help your cat remain healthy and happy. This is a personal choice for both you and your cat. Since cats are notoriously finicky eaters, you may have to try several before you find one that your cat will eat.
  3. You can also try to select a brand that will carry your kitten (if you choose a small cat) through adulthood. Several companies have age specific products only. However, others provide a range of products to serve newborns through seniors.

Feeding time provides and excellent way to bond with your cat. Select a cat food that he enjoys and you´ll have a friend for life. Don´t forget the treats!
