Whether you are going on vacation or just visiting relatives, you can take the cat along with you. With the proper preparations, your cat can travel as comfortably as any member of the family. Here are several things you can do to ease the anxiety of traveling for your cat.

1. First of all, all pets should travel either in restraints or a carrier while on the road. There are a number of restraints made just for cats on the market. They work with the same principle as a child´s car seat, allowing the cat to sit up or lay down. They hook to the seatbelt for security. It takes very little to injure your cat. These restraints will keep your kitty from being thrown in the event of an accident, or even a sudden stop.

2. You should also make a short check list of things you´ll need on the trip for your cat. You should always take food and water from home. Strange food and water can cause intestinal distress. This will not make the ideal vacation! You should pack his favorite toys and any medications he takes. The kitty first aid kit is also a must.

3. It is also a good idea to make sure your cat has all his vaccinations up to date. His tags should be clean and readable. Many pets have been lost but made it home thanks to reliable tags. On the flipside, many pets have just been lost because they did not have tags.

4. Make your travel an enjoyable experience. If your cat has never been in a carrier, spend a few days helping him get acquainted before you leave. Include his favorite blanket and his own food bowls. Don´t forget his favorite toy.
