If you are going to go on vacation this year you do not have to leave the family pet at home. Your family feline can safely travel with you to your destination. There are a few things you need to do to make this a safe and comfortable trip for everyone. As with any family member, you should make a checklist of what your kitty will need. That way when you arrive, you don´t discover that you have forgotten something. The following tips should have you with your checklist.
- If you don´t already own a pet carrier, now is an excellent time to purchase one. Your cat should travel inside this carrier and only get out when the car is stopped. She should have enough room to move around comfortably in her carrier. It should not be too big though. Your local pet store can help you pick out the one that is best for your cat.
- You should also have a collar and a lightweight leash for your cat. If she has never worn a collar it would be a good idea to introduce it a few weeks before your planned trip. This will give her time to adjust to something new. Again, your local pet store can help you with picking out the right collar and leash for your cat.
- It is imperative that you make sure your cat drinks plenty of water at each rest stop. You must NEVER leave your cat in the car with the windows up for any reason. If you have to go to the restroom and there is no one to watch your cat, take her with you.
With a little preparation, your cat can travel with you safely. Have a safe and happy trip.
