Safe Travel with Your Dog

Summer time is here and it is time for the family vacation. The bags are packed and the car is loaded, but what do you do with the family pet? Just because he is a dog does not mean he can not go with you.

There are many steps that you can take to ensure a safeand pleasant travel experience with your dog.

  1. Be sure that you have Identification Tags for you dog. This way if he gets lost or separated from you, there will be a better chance of having him returned.

  2. If you know that your dog suffers from motion sickness, plan ahead and get the required medication that is needed to relieve the symptoms.

  3. While on the road, make occasional stops so that your dog can relieve themselves and stretch. Most veterinarians do not recommend stopping at rest areas due to sanitation concerns.

  4. Also be sure that you pay attention to the road and other obstacles that could present serious problems. Do not allow your dog to lie in the floor below your feet while driving. This could cause you to lose control of the vehicle. If your pet is not one that will lie still in the vehicle, there are a number of crates, in different styles, that can be purchased to transport your pet.

  5. If you are planning on staying overnight at a hotel, be sure that the establishment allows pets to stay there.

  6. Also be sure to bring your pets water and fooddishes from home. This will give them a sense of familiarity and might ease the stress of the trip.

  7. Lastly, bring some treats and toys with you so your pet will have something to do. This will also help to relieve some of the stress that he is feeling while away from home.

By implementing these tips, you will have a more pleasant ride and vacation overall. You will be happy and your dog will happy as well.

So relax and enjoy that well deserved vacation!!
