Weed Control Problem

Weeds can appear on the inside and outside of your pond, so pond weed control is such an important subject to have a firm grasp on. Pond plants are not only beautiful to look at but serve a vital purpose for your pond. Your pond plants provide shelter, nutrition, broken down oxygen and a nesting area for the fish in your pond and for the wildlife on the outside.

There are four different types of aquatics weed that invade the inside of your pond: algae, floating weeds, immersed Imageweeds and submersed weeds. The best action to take against pond weed control is a preventative one. Taking proper care of your pond year round is the best preventative method.

Then you have your biological control method. The grass carp is a great way to control certain types of algae and duckweed but not as effective for other weeds. You can also manually remove weeds as they pop up, the old fashioned way. Then your last option is to use an herbicide for pond algae control.

If you plan on using herbicides then you really need to be absolutely sure you have pinpointed the exact problem weed type. Different weeds will need different types of treatments. I must warn you that improper use of herbicides can severely harm your fish and in the most extreme case, kill them.

Pond weed control is important for the outside of your pond as well. Most of the time you can hand pick the weeds on the outer edges of your pond so the remainder of your Imagegrass and bush life appears healthy and beautiful.

You may also choose to use an herbicide if your usual manual method of pond weed control is not working. The same rules apply when using herbicides on the outside of your pond as when you use herbicides on the inside. Identify the weed control problem and then you can locate the proper chemical to remove and eliminate the problem.

It is crucial that you monitor your weed control problem consistently year round. If you do not attempt to do this, then you are only feeding the irritating weeds and eventually making your small weed problem grow into a huge weed problem. You will also be creating more work for yourself in the future. So, keep a close eye on your weed control problem and prevention may be your only method needed.
