Attracting pond wildlife will not be hard once you have your pond up and running. Depending on the size of your pond, creatures of all shapes and size may flock to your pond whether that is your goal or not. Birds, insects, turtles, lizards, frogs and maybe even snakes are all likely to appear at any time. There are two 
groups of pond owners, those who prefer wildlife around their pond and those who don’t.
For those of you out there who are against attracting pond wildlife, that is o.k. Unfortunately, if you are one of these people then not attracting wildlife to your pond may prove a difficult task because after all your pond is outdoors. A good way to discourage wildlife around your pond is by keeping the grass cut consistently and minimize the amount of trees, shrubs and nesting areas around your pond. You may also consider the use of an herbicide or something to that effect.
For those of you who enjoy attracting pond wildlife, there are all sorts of things you can do to get those little critters around your pond. An eye catching addition to any pond would be large rocks and would serve plenty of useful purposes for wildlife. You could also add small shrubs or bushes around the outer edges of your pond. Trees are something to consider even though they often increase maintenance to your pond because of the leaves and such.
Attracting wildlife, such as birds is easy and definitely adds flavor to your pond. Try a cute little bird bath on the outside of your pond or floating retreats in your pond for the birds to rest on. You could also have a traditional bird house hanging near your pond for looks and to attract the birds.
Flowers 
are also great for attracting pond wildlife and they are definitely easy on the eyes. Provide some shallow areas for wading. Add a variety of fish to your pond. Having sun on your pond is crucial but adding a couple of shady areas would be beneficial when attracting pond wildlife.
Explore all of your options when attracting wildlife. Be fun and creative because it can only add to the appearance of your pond. If you build your pond, most likely the wildlife will come. But if you are truly into attracting pond wildlife, then have a blast creating a little escape for all the creatures.
