Inactive Reptile

There are many items that attribute to a reptile becoming inactive.

Many reptiles’ hearts have a couple atria and a ventricle partly separated septum, which is a tissue wall. Other reptiles have two atria and two separate ventricles. With these structures in the heart, the blood may not be deoxygenated and oxygenated. This makes the blood not mix well. When this occurs an inactive reptile can go a while without breathing. This also allows the aquatic reptile to be under water for a while.

In observing your reptile’s habits and patterns, you will learn when your reptile begins to become inactive. Although the reptile does have time that is considered down time.

Reptiles may be inactive due to becoming prepared for hibernation. The reptile is extremely dormant and inactive. The reptile is extremely dormant and inactive during the hibernation. During this time of hibernation they are sleeping.

The metabolism rate, if low, will cause an inactive reptile. The lack of exercise in the reptile’s routine can cause the reptile to become very inactive or lazy.

When the reptile is cold the animal becomes paralyzed and unable to move. The temperature in your reptile’s cage needs to stay between 80 degrees and 88 degrees Fahrenheit. It is vital to the reptile to have their temperature regulated. Without the proper temperature regulation the reptile could die, from the cold or from heat distress.

An inactive reptile can live and survive, but they do need exercise just like any other animal or human.

When the reptile becomes inactive quickly it may be a sign of an illness or infection. Check the reptile for cuts, abrasions, sores, or for infections. Fungus or bacteria could also lead to the reptile to inactivity. If the reptile is sick or has an infection, it needs to be treated as soon as possible. You should take your reptile to the veterinarian. Your reptile if not treated for the infection could lead to death. This is why knowing your reptile’s behavior is so important.

The inactive reptile is not necessarily bad. It just means you need to watch its behavior to make sure it does not have an infection. You also should try to get your reptile to exercise to keep its metabolism rate up so prevent it from being lazy. Keep maintenance, feeding and care of your reptile up and on routine. Make sure the heating in your reptile’s cage or environment in the proper temperatures to insure it stays healthy.

All these items are ways your reptile could become inactive. Find ways to help your reptile be active, it will be the best for your reptile.
