Small Pet Obedience Training

Small pet obedience training is an important component in having a well-adjusted pet; particularly if you own a dog. Small pet obedience training implies that your animal will learn to obey commands given to him by his handler (you). Once an animal has successfully become obedience trained, he should respond immediately and without hesitation each time he is given a command. A basic small pet obedience training course is typically six to ten weeks in length. The actual amount of time that your pet will have to go through obedience training will largely depend not only on what type of animal he is, but to what extent you would like for him to be trained. If you are seeking more advanced training for your pet, you will probably have to send him through training for several months.

Small pet obedience training is generally the most successful in more intelligent breeds of animals. Just because your pet may appear to be untrainable, however, it does not mean that you should not at least give training a chance. Make sure that you do some research on different trainers and the methods that they use, and select the appropriate person for your pet. When you choose a trainer, you will need to discuss your situation with him or her to determine whether or not your pet is a good candidate for obedience training. If your pet is a good candidate, the trainer can then discuss with you the type of results that you can expect to come out of the process. However much or little training you decide to obtain for your pet, it is highly unlikely that you will be disappointed with the results.

Basic small pet obedience training typically consists of teaching commands such as sit, stay, heel, come, and stay. Some more advanced commands might include stop, steady, kneel, growl, leave it, or take it. Once your pet has mastered advanced commands, he will even be able to understand your commands to tell him to go to bed. Many small pet owners believe that obedience training is vitally important. Such training instills not only obedience within your animal, but the lessons learned also instill structure in your pet's life. Structure and discipline are more important than some people might think when it comes to their pets, because it can actually breed a much more well-adjusted animal overall.

Small pet obedience training can be a useful tool for both you and your pet in many more ways than you might first imagine.
