Read About Small Pet Breeding

Small pet reproduction is of course very natural but in some cases can be complicated. We will take a look at the reproduction cycle of three of the most popular small pets. These are hamsters, ferrets, and guinea pigs. Although the reproduction of most small pets is similar there are slight differences and when choosing whether or not you should let your small pet reproduce you should do a lot of research and become educated with the process.

Hamsters are the first small pet reproduction cycle that we will discuss. When breeding your hamster a male and a femal should be placed in a cage together about one hour before dark. They should be monitered and the male should be removed after mating has taken place. The pregnancy will last fifteen and a half days to sixteen days. Births are not usually complicated for hamsters but it is not impossible. If you suspect something is wrong call your vet. The young will be born blind and hairless. Do not touch the young for seven days and also do not put the male, father, in the cage with the mother and babies.

Another small pet reproduction cycle we will discuss is the guinea pig. Guinea pigs are also fairly easy to breed as long as they are bread for the first time by the time they are 7 months old. The female will be pregnant for about sixty three days. About a week before labor the pelvic will start to seperate. It will continue to seperate until just hours before the birth when it reaches one inch. The reason that guinea pigs that are older than seven months the first time they get pregnant can not deliver is because the pelvic bone will not seperate. Guinea pigs generally have one to six young.

The last small pet reproduction cycle we will discuss is that of the ferret. Unlike the previous two this one can be complicated. A lot of the time people will say to leave ferret reproduction to the professionals. The first thing is that ferrets will stay in heat until they are pregnant. Once they conceive they will stay pregnant about six weeks. They can have up to twenty babies but it is usually about nine. THe reason they have problems birthing is becuase of the way there reproductive systems are designed. If you notice any problems while your ferret is in labor call the vet and bring her in.

Small pet reproduction can be tricky but worth it. It is important to do your research and know exactly what to expect with the process. Being prepared is the best way to go about small pet reproduction.
