How does Ranitidine work? Ranitidine works by blocking the effects of histamine. This prevents the cells in the stomach from producing stomach acid.Is there a generic equivalent available? Ranitidine is a generic medication. How is it given? Ranitidine tablets are given orally, without food. What results can I expect? Ranitidine works rapidly after being absorbed from the intestinal tract. When used for the treatment of gastric ulcers, however, it must be used long-term since the ulcers may be slow to heal.
