The active ingredient, Lactulose, works by increasing the water content and volume of the stools in the bowel, making them softer and easier to pass. Lactulose also works by reducing the absorption of ammonia from the gut, thereby preventing the complications of some types of liver disease.Is there a generic equivalent available? Lactulose is a generic medication.How is it given? Lactulose syrup is given orally. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. Cats do not like the taste of Lactulose. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.What results can I expect?
