The size of your bird will be the biggest determining factor in what kind of bird cage you purchase. If you have a larger bird, such as a parrot, macaw, cockatoo, or toucan, you will automatically wish to purchase a large bird cage. However, if you own a small pet, like a parakeet, cockatiel, finch, or lovebird, a smaller cage will suffice.
Bird Cage Pricing
Depending on the quality, bird cages can run from under $100 to well over $500 for a large, quality cage. There are some lovely decorative cages for smaller birds like finches that are reasonably priced, while large birds can enjoy a corner cage that is more space-efficient for your home.
Cage Appearance
While the appearance of the cage might not matter too much to your bird,
there are different material and paint options that might make a difference to you. Most cages are constructed of metal, be it wrought iron, steel, wire, or stainless steel. Many metal cages are available in a variety of colors as well and are not limited to gunmetal grey. For smaller birds like finches, wicker bird cages are also an option.
Cages are available in a range of sizes. While the square or rectangular cage is most familiar, there are cages that fit in corners, offer a "playtop" with a perch, or have a domed top. Round bird cages are also attractive, as are the decorative cages. A cage with a stand will put your bird up higher out of the draft and give it more of a chance to interact with you.
