Food affects a
dog’s health and
behavior. Dogs need the right balance of protein, fat,
vitamins and water for proper
nutrition. The right proportion of these things will ensure your dog will
have a long, healthy life.
How Much Should I Feed My Dog?
How much you give your dog depends on his age and size. Most
dog food labels can give you a general idea. Once your
puppy is at least 6-8 weeks old, you can start feeding him regularly
three times a day. At six months you can switch the meal times to just twice per
day since he will need less food at that point. After his first birthday you can
change his diet
from puppy chow to
adult formula dog food. An older dog may require a special
diet because of his changing needs and to reduce the risk of becoming
overweight.
Can I Give My Dog Table Food?
Table food is not recommended for proper Dog Nutrition. Unlike people, dogs
require a consistent dog food diet to stay
healthy. Table foods can cause your dog to experience weight gain, which can
lead to a host of other problems. In addition, some table foods (such as
chocolate) can have a toxic effect on dogs.
