    There are innumerable diseases found in dogs. Diseases can occur in dogs due to genetic problems, metabolic problems and even environmental factors such as pollutions, worms and other parasites.

Canine Diseases - Prevention & Treatment

  1. The Treatment:

    Almost all the diseases can be treated and cured but some diseases are still under study. There are no treatments available for them. These treatments are decided by a vet according to the level of seriousness of the disease. In many diseases some oral tablets and injections are needed to cure the diseases, while some will need surgeries and hospitalization.
  2. Prevention:

    Vaccinations have been developed for several dog diseases like PRA, hepatitis, etc. In recent times, most diseases are being controlled at the breeding level, by carefully selecting and certifying the dogs that are permitted to breed and produce puppies.
  3. Precautions:

    During and after the treatment proper care is must. Dogs should be provided clean and hygienic food and water. You must spend your time with them in order to protect them from stress. The treatments should not be left incomplete. The duration of medicines must be completed. After cure also few vet visits are needed.
  4. Helpful Supplies:

    Dogs will require several supplies of food, medicines, grooming agents, toys, etc. to keep healthy and free from diseases.

Canine Diseases - Concerns

  1. Level of Seriousness:

    The level of seriousness depends on the disease the dog is suffering from. Some diseases are not at all serious and can be cured with or without proper meditations. Some canine diseases like bone cancer, AIDS, kidney failure are serious and can not be cured easily.
  2. Lasting Consequences:

    Canine diseases like canine hair loss, and canine allergies will have no lasting effects after the cure and dogs can live a normal life; but some diseases can not be cured completely and dogs will have to suffer life long medications.

    Some canine diseases are hereditary like canine hair loss, while many of the canine diseases are not at all related with heredity.
  4. Lifestyle Accommodations:

    In many of the canine diseases no changes have to be made in the food habits of dogs, but in some diseases the entire lifestyle of dog has to be changed. Sometimes dogs will have to take lifelong treatment, for example, in dog diabetes.
  5. Expense:

    Depending upon the diseases and their treatment, expenses are different. Some diseases can be treated without surgeries and hence will cost you less. Surgeries will be expensive. Cancer is by far the most expensive disease to treat.
