Ponies Miniature Horses

If you are purchasing a horse for a younger rider, then you’re probably interested in Ponies-Miniature Horses. Here is everything you need to know about these pets.

Ponies

Any horse Imagethat is under 15 hh is considered to be pony-sized. Their bodies are usually larger in proportion to their height. Some of the more rare ponies are the Chincoteague/Assateague of North America, Sable Island of Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland pony. Here are some other more popular and common ponies:

  • Shetland -- Another popular pony is the Shetland, the smallest of Britain’s nine native pony breeds. It was used for many years as a beast of burden. They are usually black with an abundant mane and tail hair. They have a concave profile, small ears, and expressive eyes. Their friendly and docile nature makes them a very popular children’s pony.

  • Palomino -- A pure bred Palomino will have a coat “like a newly minted gold coin.” These are very popular for Western riding.

  • Haflinger -- This is an Austrian breed that is a combination of Arabian Imagebreeds with heavy horses. Despite these ponies’ small size, they are quite strong. They are generally eager to learn and have a friendly nature.

    Miniature Horses

Miniature Horses are bred to look like their larger siblings. They are not tall enough to ride, but many owners like them as pets. In fact, there are places that train miniature horses to help the handicapped.
