A grooming kit is necessary to keep your horse's coat healthy and clean. Included in a grooming kit should be a dandy brush for cleaning the surface of the coat, a body brush for the softer areas of the horse's body, a metal curry comb to clean the brushes, a rubber curry comb to remove loose dirt and mud, a sponge, a sweat scraper, a mane comb, and a hoof pick for removing packed-in dirt from the hooves. Usually the grooming kit is contained in a plastic box or canvas bag.

Depending on the type of stable your horse will be in, it will most likely require at least one body rug. Body rugs come in different weights for a range of purposes. Some rugs are designed to keep the horse warm in cold winter weather, while others are fabricated to deter flies and keep off sweat. Still others are specially designed for travel purposes.

Your horse's stall will need to be cleaned frequently to ensure its general health and well-being. For this, you will most likely require a wheelbarrow, rake, and shovel. Horse excrement will need to be shoveled into the wheelbarrow and removed from the horse's living area, while stale hay should be raked out. Also, a hose may be used to clean the floor areas.
