Read About Cats Dental Care

So you´ve taken your cat to the vet, she has had her shots, been wormed, and given a clean bill of health. There is only one more thing you need to do to make sure your cat remains healthy and happy. The vet should have mentioned it to you but if not, be sure to bring it up. Your Cat´s dental health is as important as her physical health. The vet should check her teeth as a routine part of a check-up. You should be brushing those feline teeth by the time she´s six weeks old. Below are a few tips to help get you started.

  1. You can purchase small toothbrush made for cats. They slip over the end of your finger so you can physically brush her teeth yourself. Be sure to purchase a toothpaste formulated especially for cats. Human toothpaste can be harmful and even deadly to your kitty.

  2. Start brushing one or two teeth at a time to get her accustomed to the technique. You should start this by the time she is about six weeks old. By the time you work your way up to her entire mouth, she will be used to this ritual just like any other part of her grooming. You should brush her teeth at least once or twice a week.

  3. Failure to brush your cat´s teeth can lead to many health problems, the least of which begins in the mouth. Cats are susceptible to gingivitis, bleeding and infected gums, and periodontal disease just like humans are. Moreover, just like humans, these problems can be avoided with the proper dental care.

Along with your pet's new toothbrush and toothpaste, you should check into the kitty treats as there are some out there designed to promote good dental health.
