Metal Dog Houses are the number-one choice of some pet owners. Here is everything you need to know about this dog product.

Choosing a Metal Dog House

Depending on the type of dog you have and her own personal housing needs, you may decide to buy a Metal Dog House. While plastic and wood houses tend to be more popular with owners in general, metal has one distinct advantage over the other two: metal is much more durable.

Plastic can be chewed to pieces by your pooch, and wood can rot when exposed to too much humidity and moisture. Metal will outlast both materials in heavy weather, and won't be a biting or chewing temptation to your pet.

If you decide to go with a metal house, make sure you know the facts:

  • Metal conducts heat and cold very well. This means that the house will get extremely hot in the summer, and will be frigid in the winter. You can temper this by installing a heating or A/C unit, or you can also buy an insulated metal model that will stand up to heat and cold much better.

  • Metal tends to be expensive. But also consider the fact that it will easily outlast plastic and wooden houses by a mile.

  • Metal is heavy. The advantage to this is that your dog won't be able to pull the house around the yard.

Some Basic Guidelines for Dog Houses

Most dogs will easily be able to make the dog house their own. Introduce your dog to the house by placing her favorite snacks or toys inside, along with any bedding or blankets she uses. She'll probably want to explore it thoroughly. If she doesn't explore it right away, make sure not to force her into the house or keep her confined in it until she has become accustomed to the space. Forcing her may only cause her to feel that the dog house is a place of punishment instead of refuge.

Place the dog house in a comfortable spot in your yard. The ideal spots will be out of direct sunlight, away from the most-traveled areas of the lawn, and away from any shrubs or plants that could be harmful to your dog. If you have children, let them know that the dog house is not a place for them to play; it should belong solely to your dog, and the space should be left alone.
